I am a 30 year old female who is relatively healthy. Recently I started having problems with my blood pressure and edema. I started taking Hydrochlorathiazide, which flushed 6 pounds of fluid during the ffirst 48 hours of taking it. While on it, my blood pressure issues, headaches, edema (abdomen, face, and lower legs), facial flushing, shortness of breath, cold hands and feet and cough went away. After being on it for about 2 months I started having kidney pain and a couple of urinalysis reports showed protein and leukocytes, so I decided to stop the diuretic and see what happened. Within 5 days of stopping it, all of the above mentioned symptoms returned, which confirms that the hctz is helping, but why at 30 years old, with no history of high blood pressure would I need to be on it? I have had low blood pressure my entire life, with the exception of the past 7 months. When I say high blood pressure, it has been about 135/95 which I used to always be 110/70 or less. My doctor today told me that it's just genetic and I shouldn't be concerned, but I am very concerned. At 30, I should be able to walk up a flight of stairs without feeling like my heart is going to burst out ot my chest!!! I also seem to really have an intolerance to exercise lately, which is new. So, my question is could this be something heart related or kidney related, or both? I have an appointment with a urologist in a couple of weeks. I was just hoping that someone might have some insight for me.
