Brain Fogginess after taking multivitamins

by Justin1967, Jul 03, 2009 02:32PM
My doctor as asked me to take 1 teaspoon of Orthoplex B Vital and Ultra Muscleze (Magnesium) daily.  I'm also taking 2 x Vitamin D3  (1000 IU). I seem to experience like a brain foggines or not quite thinking as clearly as I thought I would after taking these and wondering if this quite a normal reaction to these?

I'm also on 150mg Levothyroxine

Hi
Thanks for writing to the forum!
Since you are on Levothyroxine, please get your thyroid function assessed. Low thyroid hormones or uncontrolled or poorly controlled hypothyroidism too causes brain fog. Another contributor is low Vitamin D, hence get this also monitored. Magnesium helps clear brain fog hence is not the cause for the symptoms. Orthoplex B Vital also seems unlikely to be causing brain fog.
Please consult your specialist. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

Thanks for your reply.  Its not my thyroid function as my Tsh is 0.17.
Could it be some chemical reaction from the Vit B complex or Magnesium and the levothyroxine?
I have yet to take Vit D Test.

Regards

Justin

Hi
Thanks for writing to the forum!
It could be or it could be allergy to any exepients in the new medicines you started. First stop Orthoplex B Vital and see if the symptoms clear. If they do not clear, then stop magnesium and see. If still the symptoms do not clear ten you know for sure that it is not due to these medicines. Then you need to investigate other causes of brain fog like liver dysfunction (get liver enzymes done—liver function test), kidney dysfunction (get kidney function test done), and anemia.
Hope this helps. Do discuss this with your doctor. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

Hi, Thanks for writing.
I have stopped taking Orthoplex Vital B and the magnesium and the symptoms seem to be disappearing, though I take Vitamin D now at night. Why should this be?  What is exepients?
My naturopath only suggested that I might have some viral infection, so confused..

Hi
Exepients are substances added to tablets, syrups and other forms of medications like coloring agents, certain salts, sweetening agents etc. You could be allergic to them. However please rule out all causes of brain fog that I enumerated before to be on safe side.
Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
