Broken Knuckle

I got angry and hit something about 2 hours ago, and my knuckle by my ring finger has a 3/4 in. gash in it and it hurts so bad when I have to move it open and close motion hurts the worst. Also, half way up my arm it hurts, and is swollen a little above my wrist. The whole area in general is swelling now, what should I do? It is 35 miles to the nearest ER, and I have two small children sleeping now. I dont know what to do about it. Should I wait for the ER tomorrow, or go now, or do I even need to go period. It really hurts.

I have long previous experience in punching doors, windows and tables. I don't recommend punching walls and windows in particular.

Well, is it bleeding a lot? does it look like a deep cut? If it is you may need stiches.  You also don't want for it to get infected and it may be broken.  If you can afford it and/or have insurance I would go in. They may take an Xray to see if you broke the knuckle also.  I agree you need to learn how to control your anger. Please get some counseling at least for your kids sake.

It's not a medical emergency. a few days more or less won't make too much of a difference. actually sometimes they need to wait for the swelling to go before they can plaster.

you need to have it checked though swelling doesn't sound good. keep it still maybe ice can help. the pain could increase a lot over the next days it's normal.

once you've fixed your arm you could talk with a psychiatrist about what happened he can help you organize your thoughts.

Good luck.
