I agree with mctutums.  Without knowing additional information from the OP, like co-mormid diseases (diabetes, hypertension, lymphedema, vasculitis, smoker, peripheral vascular disease, taking medications to impeded healing like steroids, being immunosuppressed (e.g. cancer, auto-immune disease), etc.) we cannot assume that a simple band-aid will do the trick.  This gentleman needs to seek medical attention.  And we need additional information from the OP/his wife.

In the meantime while waiting for an appt. leelees1277, have your husband elevate his leg higher than his heart to reduce any swelling (if there is any; if he has a heart condition, then have him just put a pillow under the leg) and cover the wound (if it is larger than a band-aid, use something so that it will not stick to it - you can find it at a Medical Supply store) and have him wash it normally in the shower.  But please call his doctor ASAP to have it looked at.  Keep us informed.

Exposure to air and contact with other objects can lead to infection that creates a burning sensation. If you have properly disinfected the wound, just cover it with a band-aid. If no further symptoms appear, then its nothing to worry about.

Questions to think about might be -
Is he diabetic
Has he circulatory problems
Is he a smoker
To answer if it is burning it might be an ulcer which healin would depend on the above.
Best to have it seen by a practice nurse who can dress it or take swabs if neccesary

Hi there.   The reason that your husbands wound  is burning is because air his hitting his exposed nerve endings.  When nerves hit the air it will actually feel like a burn.  This is nothing to worry about, and a simple bandaid will make the burning go away, as it will be protected from the air.
You may also want to put some neosporin or antibiotic cream on the cut to keep away infection.
