Carotid artery question

I received a pacer after my cardiologist pressed my carotid artery (left) and my heart just stopped. I'm still not clear why the carotid artery affects the heart in this way. I thought it was sick sinus syndrome but it is not. Does anyone know about this?

You should ask this question in the heart rythm section. I am confused as to why you had a pacemaker if your doctor made your heart stop?
