Charlie horse that will not release

I have non-stop pain in my left cafl just below the knee. It feels like a deep charlie horse in combination with a band-like tourniquet sensation that is also just below the knee. This has gone non-stop for over four days. No amount of rubbing, walking, stretching or soaking makes it release. I do not believe I have a vitamin imbalance as I'm taking Melaleuca's Vitality for Life supplements. In addition, I have taken doses of magnesium citrate, quinine and potassium bombed with bananas, Odwalla Blackberry Fruit Shakes and kiwi fruit. Add hydrating. Nothing makes a dent in this thing.

Physically, the calf is swollen slightly, but not discolored. It is warmer than the other calf. Both ankles and feet are the same size. There is some purple at the bottom of the back of my left knee, but nowhere else. This doesn't look like online pictures of DVT, but I worry that it may be a blood clot. My doctor will not see me before Wednesday.

I agree that a DVT should be rule out first.  An ultrasound should be done ASAP to evaluate this possibility.

If negative, musculoskeletal issues can be evaluated by an orthopedist.  Electrolytes and kidney dysfunction should be considered.  I would obtain a blood test looking at the electrolyte levels and kidney function.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.

Thank you for your response. I was able to get an earlier appointment today and an ultrasound did find clots. I will go back to see the doctor tomorrow for treatment. She believes the clots may have been brought on by birth control medication. I have been stopped on those immediately. She is considering putting me on warfarin to dissolve the clots. She also wants me to alter my diet, so I may also be referred to a dietician.
