Chest Pain

After I have been sleeping for the night and I wake up, I have chest pain in my sternum area.  It hurts when I move my arms to stretch my chest. It hurts when I breath deep breaths.  This happens every morning when I wake up. Should I be worried?  Is this common? Any possible explanations?

It sounds like, because you say it hurts with arm movements and taking deep breaths, it may be costochondritis, which can be very painful & the doctor can usually pinpoint it with exam- they usually treats with a short stent of NSAIDS to try to knock the inflammation down.

The fact it happens after you have been lying down is why I believe Betty thinks it could be heartburn.  Acid reflux is notorious for rearing its ugly head when you have been lying flat, which is why they advise you not to eat 2-3 hours before bedtime and to elevate/put a wedge under the head of your bed and not to eat spicy, fried, fatty, citrus, and dairy foods when you have gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

Please go and get examined in person by a qualified physician!
