Chest discomfort on my left side and I'm unsure what's causing it.

I have noticed in the last few days a pain in the lower part of left side of my chest. At first it was a mild discomfort, but now it has gotten to be pretty painful. When I breathe deeply, hiccup, burp, laugh, or lay down it starts to become unbearable. I was wondering if anybody had an idea as to what was causing this?

Did anything happen around the time that the discomfort started, like you fell down or maybe felt an odd sensation when working out - anything that might have caused one of your ribs to become displaced?

I know that pain you describe very well, and mine is caused from costochondritis - inflammation of the cartilage around the ribs.

The rib does not have to be out of alignment for costo to occur, but it is a common cause.

If anti-inflammatories help, then I would suggest costochondritis might be the problem.  It usually goes away on it's own unless it is caused by infection or the rib is out.

Hope you get some help with it soon if it is getting worse.
