Chest infection with associated muscle pain

Dear Sir / Madam,
My friend has the following symptoms, which are getting no better.  I do not expect a diagnosis, but please can you shed some light on what could be causing his problems?

Sex Male
Age 58
Height 1.80m
Weight 106kg
This man has a large bone structure, muscular build. Muscles now have markedly reduced power.  Athletic when younger, played rugby, competitive water skier.

i would think with the color of the sputum, cough and spot on the left lobe on the x-ray, it could possibly be COPD or cancer, but this is only a guess...
i hope that i have helped and wish u and ur friend the best of luck.
hope they figure it out soon so he can start feeling better.
