Chronic Fever

by mrskav, Feb 17, 2006 12:00AM
I am 33 yrs old and have various autoimmune problems- hypoparathyroidism, addison's, diabetes 1.
Around Christmas I was diagnosed with the shingles, then last month I had esophogitis.
For the past month (at least) I have been having fevers at least 3x a week, ranging from 99-102.  My doctor can't find any cause for this fever.  My bloodwork is all normal (as normal as it can be for me w/my problems).  And I have been sick my entire life, and never had unexplained fevers before.
Could the fever be caused by my autoimmune problems?
I start a new job on 3/1 and don't want to be sick.
Please help.

Thanks

Yes, the fevers can be caused by your autoimmune problems. This is fairly common. It is even listed as a symptom of Lupus. I have had frequent fevers for years. The main problem they cause for me is tiredness. You should be able to combat them somewhat with Tylenol, or Ibuprophen. Check with your Dr. to see what's best for you. I recently began taking a new immunosuppressant, and the frequency of my fevers has diminished greatly. It also helps my immune system to quit trying to destroy the rest of my body. Good luck with your new job.
