Chronic lower right quadrant groin pain

by theodoresmom, Mar 13, 2007 12:00AM
I am a 52 year old female with chronic and at times very severe pain in the lower right quadrant of my groin. The pain radiates down my leg making it difficult to walk up stairs. I get some relief (mild) when I have a bowel movement or when I urinate (which has become more urgent). The pain is also radiating into my tail bone area. This has been a problem for years, but recently it has become severe, restricting my normally active lifestyle. One really odd thing is many times by evening the pain has lessoned, but when I get up in the morning I am awakened by the pain building.
A few medical stats on me – I am 5’7” weigh 128 lbs. I regularly exercise (cardio and weights) and this is not an injury – this is a chronic problem that has worsened as I have gotten older. I have exercised when in pain and honestly it doesn’t make the pain worse, but the pain itself is exhausting. Movement doesn’t make the pain worse but the pain is so bad it is hard to move.
My gallbladder was removed when I was 25 and I had a hysterectomy when I was 28. I have 1 child that is 25 years old. And with the exemption of migraines and this terrible pain, I am in really great health. When I went to my family physician, he sent me for a hip x-ray, which revealed nothing. About 7 years ago I had an upper and lower GI and they were both normal – these were administered because of my right side pain complaint. I had a Colonoscopy – normal. They also did the ‘dye’ test (sorry I can’t remember the name) – also negative results. I have had stool samples examined for parasites – also negative.
