Constant nausea

by BellaLuna19, Jul 04, 2009 07:15PM
About 2 months ago, give or take, I started to get an upset stomach, along with a rough, dry feeling in my throat, as if something was stuck. For the next 2 and a half weeks, I had nausea (though there was no vomiting) and diarrhea, along with headaches, dizziness, slight chills, and the feeling of something stuck in my throat persisting. There was no fever that I was aware of, although I did feel overheated, just didn't have a thermometer. I eventually went to the ER since my doctor's office was closed and I felt worse than ever, on the verge of passing out. Once I got there, he ran strep, flu, and various blood tests, all coming back negative for anything out of the ordinary. He declared it a stomach virus and sent me on my way with a prescription for a medicine to help my nausea subside (I believe it may have been Phinagrin, but I can't remember if that was what he prescribed or not). After a few days, it started to lighten up, eventually passing. It's been about 2-3 weeks since then, and it's starting to come back. Since last night, I have had nausea, diarrhea, and the same feeling in my throat. Does anyone know what it could be? I have a feeling that it's not a simple stomach virus, but I'm not a doctor, so I don't know.

Hi
Thanks for writing to the forum!
Your symptoms point more towards IBS with GERD. There is a chance that you could have developed gluten allergy. You need to consult a gastroenterologist. While you get the appointment keep a food stress diary. See if there is a connection to certain types of food in both aggravating and relieving the problem. You can also take OTC omeprazole meanwhile. Along with it you can try over the counter antacids. Avoid heavy meals. Avoid too much of caffeine, tea, fried food and drinks both alcoholic and non alcoholic fuzzy ones. Avoid heavy exercises within 4 hours of a heavy meal. Raise the head end of the bed by pillows to 30 degrees. Go to bed at least 2 hours after food. Doing this will ease the feeling of something in the throat.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
