Desperate for answers, please help if you can. :)

I guess to start out, I have a lot of health problems already.  I am on meds for high BP, have hypothyroidism & am on meds for that (synthroid), have polycystic ovarian syndrome, am on buspar for anxiety.  In the last year I have had 1 kidney infection, 1 UTI that didn't reach my kidneys, shooting pains all over my body (still yet to be addressed by my doc, even though she knows about them), I had influenza, been tested for diabetes but test came out pretty good, In september I had pretty much a 'round about' lab work done, tested all the vital things including kidney, liver, etc.  Last year from May to mid August I had a continuous period that lasted 72 days.  Right now, February 26th, I am on a period that has lasted from February 1st.  Starting Provera to stop it tomorrow.

Okay, so for the past month, month and a half, I've been having this pain in my right side.  My doctor thought it was my gallbladder so she ordered X ray, CT of the upper right quadrant, CT with contrast of the upper right quadrant, Hida Scan.  Nothing showed up except for an enlarged liver & spleen which she called a 'fatty liver' & said it was because I was overweight.  Okay, I thought, but what is the pain?  I'm terrified that it is my kidney, although she has done 2 urinalysis' in the past 3 weeks.  There is no infection, and my sugar levels are normal.  I am so tired of going to the doctor, tired of not being able to sleep because of the pain in my side (it gets worse if I lay on my stomach.) I was pretty aneimic (because of my period) for the past 3 days but started taking iron supplements.  Some of the problems have let up since then, like fatigue & weakness & being cold.  I don't know what else it could be, & am worried that we are missing something.  I'm extremely depressed & barely have the will to do anything anymore.  :( Please give any advice if you have some.  Thank you!

New developments on all this - I went to my new doc & she did a whole new set of labs.  I just went yesterday, so I don't know what all of them say, but they called me today & put me on meds for a kidney infection & I have to do a 24 hour urine catch for protein in my urine.  But question - I didn't tell them I was on my period & I mean... the urine was practically pure blood because my period is so heavy.  So I didn't realize that 'protein' in your urine comes from the blood in your urine... Should I mention this to them?  I'm going to call them tomorrow (they're closed right now).  But I just need to knwo if I understand this right... that protein comes from blood.

Well, I have thought about parathyroid actually medicmommy, but I haven't been to the doc to ask about it yet.  Waiting until this friday so I can go to the new doc.  Sickbutempowered - I am not taking any pain killers at all unless I absolutely have to.  My theory is that I'm already taking my thyroid medicine, BP meds & SOMETIMES take buspar for panic disorder, so I don't really need to be on any more meds.  The blood work they did was actually so long ago, that I don't remember what all they did, And wouldn't it be outdated anyway?  (was done last august/september)

I am definitely going to bring up the vitamin/minerals thing on friday.  I have looked at several good web sites that have information on the subject & honestly think I could have hypocalcemia.  I am getting paranoid that it's circulation/blood related mainly because I'm human lol & I guess it's been going on for a while I'm getting worried that if it IS something serious, I'm taking too long to get help for it.

The help from medicmommy seems very thorough. I also want to say it is my undestanding that a fatty liver can cause tenderness and pain sometimes. Also, are you taking ibuprofen or anything like that? Perhaps if you are, it might irritate things.
There are so many things that can cause pain. Fibromyalgia, autoimmune disorders, and general inflammation. Have they checked your blood work for inflammation? Have they ran tests beyond the typical CBC, Thyroid, and Metabolic profile. I agree with getting vitamin and minerals checked too, but like me you have so much going on it is so hard to get the help and answers you need. I feel sorry for all the patients going through this, but it really can be hard for some doctors to figure it out when there are so many things going on at once. Also, a common cause of rib pain is inflammation. One called costochondritis. I suffer from this a lot, so I just thought I would add it in. Get better soon.

Hello!
I was wondering if you checked out the Parathyroid.com site for your symptoms? The parathyroid glands are different from the thyroid, and can really mess things up if there is something going on with them...(They can also affect thyroid function)...

This is getting really frustrating.  I have an appt with a new doc on friday to get a 2nd opinion because all my doc did was give me some muscle relaxers.  I don't want muscle relaxers, I want to know what my problem is and how to FIX it.  AGASDLFJASLDFJ! Sorry... taking out frustrations.  Anyway, so I've also been getting pins & needle pains in my leg, I'm SO worried that I have a circulation/blood related issue.  It's really beginning to scare me & I don't know if I should wait until friday to go to the other doc or go to the ER.  I am so SICK of being in doctors offices that I don't even want to THINK about an emergency room visit.  Ugh.

Well, add another issue to the list - Muscle Cramps.  I had been having them, however, didn't really think anything of it until I started having them almost every night.  They are not just in my legs - They've been in my feet (toes), Legs (calf muscles), fingers & neck muscles.  I called my doc & left a message telling her that the cramps hadn't gone away.  Last time I was there I mentioned them to her, & she told me she thought I was dehydrated & to drink more water.  Well, 2 weeks later & 8 glasses of water a day... and i'm still having them.

sounds like you could have some sciatic problems which can give off all kinds of indirect communication to your body.  Such as an enlarged bladder or spasmatic bladder - Have you been to a good urologist- and also an orthopedic doctor and why are you sticking with a P.A.?  Although, you are discussing multi problems- I would suggest ruling out any sciatic problems with a good orthopedic doctor as well as a good urologist for spasmatic bladder!   Good Luck!  Janga

Hello. I am new here, and just caught your post.  I had similar pain, and i see that you have trouble with your periods, as well as P.O.S. Has your Gynocologist considered or tested you for endometrosis?  I was in SEVERE pain with mine, and they could not find any other cause. It too caused heavy, long periods, among other things.

Tests sometimes miss stuff. I had a kidney stone stuck in my ureter that an ultrasound missed...I suffered with it for several weeks as it worked it's way down...When it finally got stuck at the bottom, it shut off all urine flow and my poor kidney swelled to twice it's normal size! (Very painful!) Turns out, I had an elevated blood calcium level cause by hyperparathyroidism...(See J. Norman's web sit on hyperparathyroid symptoms...This condition is uncommon and docs rarely look for it..)I hope this helps...Good luck with your appt. Post back and let us know what the doc said...

Sorry, didn't realize I had already said that about the 'fatty liver'.  Excuse that!

I do see an endocrinologist for my hypo & pcos.  I think my next appt with him is mid march.  (I see him every 3 months).  Yes, I have had the need recently to urinate frequently.  I told my doctor, that's why she did the 2nd urinalysis this week even after just doing one.  I was pretty sure, though, that I didn't have an infection because I just got off 10 days worth of amoxicillin (took it for the 'gallbladder' issue she thought I had, she thought it was infected, apparently not).  I had a kidney ultrasound done in Sept/Oct of last year, but I'm sure things could have changed by now.  I am trying to find a new doctor, because this one is highly frustrating me.  She looks at all these old tests as if they are the end all, be all to what is going on inside me.  I'm always asking "Couldn't things have changed by now?"  I will mention it to my endocrinologist when I go see him.   Oh, and to note, she's a physicians assistant, not a doctor.  I did see the main Doctor and he said my liver/spleen is a 'fatty liver' and it's that way because I'm overweight.  He said that it can't cause pain.

Hello!
I was wondering how your blood calcium level is? If it has been running high for a period of time, it can cause all of these problems...Including kidney stones, joint and muscle pains, constipation, and yes, female hormone issues..Do you have a need to urinate frequently? If so, (and you haven't) get an ultrasound and/or an xray with contrast done of your kidneys...You may have a stone that has worked it's way down into the ureter and gotten stuck...and the pain you have may be "referred" from your flank...Your liver and spleen are working overtime trying to keep your blood levels healthy...If you aren't seeing an endocrinologist, you'd be doing yourself a service seeing one...They may be able to pinpoint the source of your problem better...Good luck...Hope you feel better soon...
