Diagonsed with IBS ......I'm not so sure.

In June 05' I developed a sudden onset of overnight weight gain. At the time I was 30 and very active...worked out at the gym 3 to 4 days a week.  My stomach swelled overnight to the tune of about 10 inches. I had severe pain in my lower left abdominal area. I was rushed to the ER when I could no longer take the pain. The ER. Doc said I had Gas.....yeah right.  They sent me home with Prilosec OTC. Went back to family DR. he put me on Zoloft.....even more weight gain followed after taking Zoloft. Was sent to a specialist and he did a Colonoscopy and said it's "most likely" IBS.  Put me on Zelnorm and Citrucel.  I have had NO change.....except for more weight gain.  I've tried cutting back on calories, carbs....you name it.

If anyone has anything they can recommed with a person diagnosed with IBS with constipation PLEASE post!

Have had all the "female" testing done to rule out all sorts of Cancer.  Have had numerous ultra sounds.....they found nothing. However once a DR. did say he thought my Spleen looked enlarged but, I shouldn't worry.....hmmmm

I have had IBS symptoms for years.  But doctors think that having chronic constipation is no big deal in women.  Well if they had to go for weeks upon weeks without moving their bowels, they would be singing a different tune.  Believe it or not, I went today for a colonoscopy.. figured I needed one since I have fecal matter sitting in my colon all the time and figure that can't be a good thing.  The doctor told me I just had a little bit of diverticulosis.  I asked him what I could do to get myself regular because I can't remember the last time I had a normal bowel movement... the only time I do go to the bathroom is if I take something to make me go, and it causes bad diarrhea.  He told me to take a tablespoon of mineral oil every other day and if it works, ok and if it don't ok.. the way I go is normal for me.  I told him I go for weeks without going and he told me "then go for weeks without going... cause then that is what is normal for me"!!!!  Could you believe that?  There is no way I could believe that its good going for weeks without moving your bowels.. not to mention all the pain and sluggishness you get from not moving your bowels for that long.  Does this sound right to anyone?

I COMPLETELY sympathize with you people who have been cast away with untreatable IBS!  Doctors have done the same with me.

I share the bloat and distension and heartburn.  Has the Prilosec helped?  Has sex become painful?  If it has, check out my post above, entitled "Stomach and sex pain," to see if we share other similarities.

The people who responded to my post recommended that I look into endometriosis, which I believe is only diagnosable by a gynocologist.  Pain is a major symptom, as if bloating.

Since both IBS and endometriosis and many other disorders are untreatable, more and more people are turning to alternative medicine and homeopathy when all else has failed.  I am soon to be one such person.  I just ordered Dr. Natura's Colonix (www.drnatura.com) and I'm VERY excited for it to arrive.  Check out the website (and the RIDICULOUS photos!) and see what you think.  I've read up on this product on other unaffiliated websites, and people seem to swear by it.  Also check out high colonics, another colon-cleansing procedure you can get at a doctor's office or day spa.

Hope that all of us can one day find our magic bullet...sigh...

The only smptoms we share seem to be the heartburn and the lower abdominal pain. My heartburn was extreme and burned clear thru into my back...felt like me chest cavity would spilt in two. I took Nexium and it's gone. However my pain is located only in my lower left side.

I was recently diagnosed with Gatroparesis.  This means slow stomach emptying.  It is diagnosed by having a gastric emptying scan. Although Fiber is great for IBS it is the worst thing for Gastroparesis.  I am constipated a lot but that is because the food isn't leaving my stomach as fast as it should.  I get bloating, stomach pain, feeling of fullness easily, nausea and constipation.  To treat the Gastroparesis I eat small amounts of food.  No sugar or fat.  There is medication to stimulate the stomach muscles also, but I am trying to stay away from any meds. at the moment.  Gastroparesis is casused by hyperthryoidism, diabetes, virus, damage to the vagal nerve and other things. I do not have any obvious reason for having Gastroparesis my Gastroenterologist is looking for an underlying cause. It is very important to get the right diagnosis.  I have had a long history of Gastro. problems.  so for me it was a bit easier to diagnose.  I have no gall bladder, no appendix and have had a complete hysterectomy so that rules out a lot of things right there. Good luck

I have been shook off with IBS too but disagree. Can i just ask if you get pain at the bottom of the ribs and if it is swollen like a "beer belly".You say you have constipation, when you have bowel movement is it solid and 1 colour and look like food has not digested correctly.Do you get any other pains throughout your body.I ask all of this because these are some of my symptoms aswell as groin pain and tightness around my back.
I have had an abnormal liver test back, but don't know if this has anything to do with it.Is your tongue coated?

my symptoms with the supplosed IBS i suffer which i do not agree is the problem with me are:-

groin pain
tightness around upper back
heartburn
coated tongue (yellow at the back when i wake up and yellow teeth.
consipated but feels like there is something making my food stay up above like it is stuck and takes 2 days to come out & when it does it looks like it has not disgested properly (small chunks of food in it)
dry mouth
dizzy spells
dark brown & light yellow stool (mixed) like the dark brown has been stuck there a while
very strong smelling stool

Do you get any of these and if so please let me know which ones.
