Dizziness: Should I be worried?

The last couple weeks I have been experiencing some serious dizziness whenever I lay down OR sit/stand up.  It only lasts maybe a minute at most, and doesn't bother me when I'm just going through my normal daily routine, but this is a new thing for me.  Nothing has changed in my eating or exercise habits, I don't smoke, rarely drink.  Of course, I've experienced the "birdies" when standing up quickly like everyone has, but this happens every time and it's beginning to worry me.  My mother has a genetic brain tumor on her pituitary gland that I've never been tested for, and in the last couple months I've had some serious issues with my period regulation as well so that's adding to my nervousness.

Should I be worried or is this relatively normal?

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
You need to get examined to rule out a few things such as low blood pressure, postural hypotension, cervical spinal nerve compression, hypoglycemia, severe anemia, an underactive thyroid (called hypothyroidism), overactive thyroid (called hyperthyroidism), adrenal insufficiency (called Addison's disease), GERD, and internal ear infections.
Do consult your doctor. Take care!

are you on any new meds or have you discontinued meds... especially psychiatric meds.  Meds, for example -  Effexor when not taking this on time or tapering off or beginning this medications has some serious side-effects ... This includes serious dizziness mostly when walking and active, not so much when laying down or sitting.  It lasts for a few seconds and stops but will continue throughout the day.  It causes nausea for some people and is just a very uncomfortable sensation.
