Dizzy, Hissing Ears...please help!

Hello all,

Thank you for taking the time to read through my thread, I appreciate it very much.
Since June 2007 I have been having a terrible time with my health. It started on a Friday, where I thought I was going to pass out. My heart was racing, my mouth dried, and I felt extremely scared that I was about to die. It was the perfect fight or flight attack, that from that day messed with me big time. The following Monday I went to see the Doctor, who ran an EKG and after looking at the results, called 911 from his office and had me rushed to ER. He was convinced I had a heart attack. The Paramedics categorically denied that after looking at my EKG, and in the ER after blood work, xrays and a few hours of monitoring I was sent home. Over the next few weeks, I became incredibly fatigued, to the point where I could hardly get out of bed in the morning. Then in August, the same dreadful feeling came over me, and I began shaking from fear, cold chills, and extreme far that I was having a heart attack. I was rushed to the ER again, for the second time, where they were a bit more serious in trying to establish what was going on. I spent four days as an inpatient, and they ran all sorts of tests on me. I had 3 MRI's, a treadmill test, echocardiogram, thalium tests, blood work...etc. After four days they came up with no diagnosis, and sent me home, with a prescription for flacainide to regulate my hart as I was having plenty benign PVC's. The MRi did reveal that I have two lesions on my brain, and the Neurologist recommended a new MRI followup be performed 6 months from that date, which was actually done last week with good results - the lesions have not grown, and there are no news ones. However, the Cardiologist was mystified at why I was having such frequent PVC's - every third beat was a PVC, and after trying various medications (toporol, felacainide, sotalol etc.) she decided to refer me to an  Electrophysiologist. He listened to my heart and after reviewing the reports from the Hospital, and Cardiologist, suggested he perform a Catheter Ablation. I had the first procedure done in December 2007, which was unseuccessful, and for 6 weeks was incredibly sick, light headed and plagued with nausea. He suggested a 2nd ablation in February, and we went ahead with it, and to this day I have not had any more PVC's although 6 weeks out now, I still have some chest discomfort. I guess the heart needs to heal...

The problem is that since June 2007, the dizziness and hissing in my ears has never really stopped. I have had all the ENG tests, MRI and the Catheter Ablations, yet this still is an issue with me. Also, since all of this started my stool has been light in color, my diet hasn't really changed, and it has a bitter aroma, I know this sounds gross, and I apologize, but I am at a loss as to what the next step is in terms of finding a solution. I sometimes also feel like I am choking, and every now and then feel a sensation similar to fainting which lasts a split second, but when that happens I feel weak and fatigued. Is there anyone out there who has had anything remotely similar and can suggest what kind of action I need to take as far as seeking further medical help in getting to the bottom of this weird dizziness, hissing in ears, light colored bitter smelling stool?

I am thinking of maybe seeing my PCP again to see what tests he can recommend as this is affecting my quality of life, as it is now being laced with anxiety. Can anyone relate to any of this...I would love to hear from you...thank you kindly!

**EDIT: Since all of this has happened, I have lost my father to lung cancer, have been experiencing incredibly difficult financial issues, which add to anxiety, but I love the Lord and trust in Him to ultimately bring resolve.

Thank you soo much for your encouragment, it helps when we all band together through the issues we are dealing with, knowing we are not alone is huge! Virtual hugs right back at you...

I forget the correct terminology but I have had that test where they put goggles on and you stare at a tv screen with black and white images. I have also had the test where they hook up many little cup like things to the skull and flash bright white light at you to read brain signals. Also did the warm/cold air test in the ears, as well as following a red dot on the screen in front - I think that was the ENG test.

With regard to my heart, I was actually having more than 28000 extra beats every day, so the catheter ablation definitely helped that. I am however, still sore in my chest, but have not felt the extra beats or PVC since February 6th. Every now and then I do get a flip flop thud in my chest, which is weird, but the Cardiologist says this is related to the procedure and may take a while to settle the heart...although I hate it when that happens.

I am seeing my regular PCP tomorrow afternoon, and will be asking him to send me for complete blood work testing. I am pretty sure if there is anything out of whack with my electrolytes it will show up.

I have actually been very well disciplined with my diet, have stopped caffeine/coffee/sodas for over 5 months now, and eat very low sodium content food. This is really horrible, but through it we will all come...thank you for your kind words...I am new to this site and still navigating around it...will look for your post to see what you are experiencing...support netwrok is great...

Be blessed always...hugs!

Good morning from Michigan,
I am lucky enough to have an appointment today, tomorrow and Wednesday maybe if they reschedule the ultrasound I wished. First of all BIG virtual hugs coming your way. I try to come on here and answer a few questions every day. I am just a patient (somewhat impatient patient) seeking help myself. The one thing that is coming to mind is ELECTROLYTES. I know this is silly maybe, but I can tell you that in my personal experience, it can screw you up if they are off at all.  As far as for bitter bms, I don't know
but who knows maybe all this is tied in, I don't know what is going on but it sounds like you are having some major stuff going on. PVCs with no true diagnoses? Sigh! Ok, I don't know if what you have is what I had/occasionally have on and off, but where it feels like your heart is beating funny but not necessarily fast. Almost like a weird flipping sensations? I have not had any tests for this, just an echo recently.
Now you said the Neurologist ran an ENG ( or did you mean an EMG). I suggest if you need to go get a second opinion. If they have not run the test where they put goggles on your head, flash lites that you follow, and put cold and warm air in your ears and ask you silly questions:I suggest you ask for this). But you said, ENG so I am assuming that is what they did. Also, there are neuro/muscular disorders that do not show up on MRIS. A few kind folks on here suggested I get checked for Lyme disease, that can show up on an MRI but not always from what I have read. Ok, I am a bit off track and I am sorry for this. Are you always thirsty? Do you ever crave weird foods, or lots of salt? Do you have muscle cramping ever? Twitching? Weakness? These are some things to consider. I suggest you start by getting a good Internist as well who can help you coordinate care. Still maybe they should check your electrolytes, calcium, potassium, magnesium, sodium, etc. just to make sure you are ok. Maybe even a new ENG would detect something now. Maybe someone dealing with vestibular disorders could help you with that. My doc told me to limit sodium and not drink too much. Sigh, that does not help my ears or the dizziness for me. It sounds like the ocean is moving in roaring, and I mistook it for hubby having a snoring episode. I know this is a ramble, but I feel really bad for you. I am dealing with some of these things too, and struggling to get help. Please, hold in there. Peace and blessings and may God give you strength and purpose every day.
