Hello, I'm a 21 years old male, with no big health problems this far, some time ago I started experiencing some muscle fatigue, cramps and tingling & numbness in arms and legs, at the same time I strated to feel a little dizzy, especially after meals. So I decidede to check the doctor, he said to take magnesium so did I, then I made some heart and blood exams, everything came back normal, so he said by now that there's no need for more exams, when I finish to take magnesium and the symptoms continue after 3 or 4 weeks to check him again.
Well, the muscle fatigue, cramps and tingling & numbness have disappeard, but the dizzyness continues, it's almost like a seizure, but I am conscious and only have dizzyness, sometimes nausea aswell, I say it's almost like a seizure because it almost appears suddently and goes away suddently, during that spells of dizzyness, I don't lose the ballance, but I just want to lay down and stay quiet, it's annoying. Sometimes I've been experiencing some muscle spams on one arm, not very frequent, but still...
Out of curiosity I checked web md with that spams on the arms and it said it could be epilepsy...
Does anybody knows if this symptoms could really be a sign of epilepsy?
Thanks in advance.
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Chances of epilepsy are less. I would suggest you get the blood levels of the following checked if they have not already been checked: potassium, calcium, sodium, magnesium, vitamin B complex, or vitamins B1, B3, or B6 and Vitamin D. Generally deficiencies of any of the above can cause muscle twitching and spasms in localized or generalized areas of the body. Get your kidney function, parathyroid gland function and adrenal function tests done because these affect the electrolyte balance in the body. Stress, alcohol, caffeine and fatigue all cause similar symptoms. Hence if you take alcohol or coffee then cut this down. Sleep at regular hours and see if it helps. Certain sleep disorders and peripheral nerve disorders due to diabetes or hypothyroidism can also be the cause.
Some of these can cause dizziness too. Otherwise you will need to consult a doctor to rule out a few things such as low blood pressure, postural hypotension (fall in blood pressure, cervical spinal nerve compression, hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), severe anemia, an underactive thyroid (called hypothyroidism), overactive thyroid (called hyperthyroidism), adrenal insufficiency (called Addison's disease), GERD or gastric reflux, and internal ear infections.
Since I cannot examine you and know other related conditions you may be having, nor is a detailed history possible on net, I have listed the various possibilities that should be looked into. Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral.
Hope this helps. Take care!
