Doc prescribing wrong med for Adult ADD?

Why is my 'shrink' trying to treat my Adult ADD with Bubropion HCL SR (100mg tab 2X a day)?  Is this the right med for me?  Good grief...it didn't even cut out my smoking.  Both of my adult children are on Adderall and are doing fine. My doc keeps telling me that Concerta & Adderall are 'too addictive' ... what the heck ... I am not looking to get high or anything ... I just want to be able to have a med to make my ADD manageable.

Are you going to the same doctor as your kids are? You might want to try that. I get good results with Vyvanse. See if you can try some of that. Read about it online. If you get an Rx, print a coupon before you go to the pharmacy. It will save you BIG. Good luck

ayla60 ... My oldest daughter lives in South Carolina.  Other daughter's doc does not take Medicaid ... which I am unfortunatly on .... so I cannot afford to go there.  I am between a rock & a hard place  :(

I did not mean Adderall & Concentra "together".  Just meant to say that doc says both of them are addictive by themselves.

Have been on Bupropion for about 5 weeks.

Hi,
Your doctor is being smart to not put you on a combination of Adderall and Concerta. They are both nervous system stimulants and together they can cause cardiac events such as a heart attack... How long have you been on the Bupropion? It can take 6-8 weeks to have any effect on your body..but that drug in most cases is not used to treat ADD and studies have proven that its not very effective in treating ADD. If you don't mind me asking why is it that you would need both Concerta and Adderall rather than just taking Adderall alone or looking into Ritalin? Your doc is right that together those drugs are very addictive and even though you aren't looking to abuse the drugs it does not matter a prolonged use of them causes an addictive dependency. It's important to realize that it may take time and trial and error in order to find the right drug to treat your ADD. I am sorry you are having to deal with this.. I wish you the best of luck!
