I did go to the ER this afternoon after developing a large area of swelling and bruising along a vein path on inner thigh. Dr. listened to what I had to say and took it in. She ordered labs including blood chem, cbc. She could plainly see swelling and bruising and skin tender to touch. I was a 7 or 8 on the pain chart trying to move my rt leg. so, she ordered xray of the groin area which was negative. concerned about a possible blood clot, she ordered a doppler ultrasound of both legs...negative (thank goodness), and then a CT of the hip which was reason I could not move my leg horizontally outward. She was concerned about a pathological fractures in the hip. they can happen just by walking. spontaneously. CT was also negative. End result: has to be the levaquin, i am in good health and the only thing added was the levaquin and then cannot walk on rt leg! Dr. ordered crutches for me to keep weight off leg and let it heal and naproxin but i'll use advil or motrin for inflammation. Hoping I recover quickly from this event. Just wanted to share and thank you.
Thank you also for your post. I'm sitting here after noticing some swelling around bilateral ankles. I can feel the fullness sensation. At this moment the swelling is not profound by any means just slight. Just worrisome. I'm still having issues with inner rt thigh - cannot move my rt leg horizontally without pain radiating into the thigh. extremely difficult trying to get out of my car. I will follow up with my doctor.
Thank you for your post. I'm under the care of a neurologist for my MS and I will contact him since any infection can affect MS.
Levaquin has some terrible side effects besides tendon rupture. It was my own fault. I read about the side efects but I had a bad infection and insisted on that specific drug. My problems (muscle pain, tenderness, discomfort) lasted six months after I took the medication, but they did go away. Curiosly Cipro, which is of the same class of drugs, doesn't seem to cause any problems.
