Elevated Liver Enzymes

Hello I just recently went to the doctor and had a reg. blood work done. My liver enzymes are currently high and I am FREAKED OUT!!! ast/alt are both over 160 but the ratio whatever that means is 300. A month ago they were just a little high and I just found out I am pregnant. All blood work came back fine no hep, had ultrasound for gall bladder it came back ok. No family history of liver cancer or anything like that, don't drink, or take pain meds. So I dunno but I also suffer from anxiety and since this is the first time I have EVER had anything come back abnormal I keep thinking I am going to die. Doctors office don't seem to concerned doing more blood test I am sure, but I was hoping someoe else had the same issue with a good outcome or advice. Thanks.

Do you have fatty liver or just abnormal elevated liver enzymes for unexplained reasons?

Thanks everyone, no I am not on any meds for my anxiety, I probably should be because it can make me feel crazy at times! Thank you also for the congrats on the pregnancy. I actually had a blood test done before I actually conceived but didn't know of anything abnormal until a few days after I did. So my elevated liver enzymes are not being affected by the pregnancy. I am 8 weeks this wed:). Anyways I called friday and they said my levels dropped but are still abnormal. So I had a little relief over the weekend. I actually went in to see the doc last week because I was reading up on the internet (as I stupidly do all the time) and was convinced maybe I had bone cancer that had speard to my liver. I know go ahead and laugh but no joke this is what anxiety will do to you. The doc just laughed and said your an "internet reader" aren't you lol. So he said just to calm down and I am not in any real danger yet. But I do worry. but again I called on friday to check and see and they actually came down some. I go again to the doc this wed. to hear babies heartbeat for the first time and talk more about the situation. Unfortunatley I have been to frighten by all this to even enjoy being pregnant:( Anyways I have been reading post from other people and it helps and other times scares me so I will keep posting and maybe I can help someone else out that is going through this. I guess I am more freaked out because it has to do with my liver which is a pretty important organ lol.

I would recommend having it recheck in a month to see where the level is.

First, congratulations on the baby news!  If your doctor doesnt seem too overly concerned chances are good it really isnt a life threatening situation. Having said that, my sister in law started taking an anti-anxiety med and her liver couldn't take it. Her enzymes went really high.  Are you on any?  That could explain it---if you are taking them don't stop without your doctors help.  I stopped abruptly once, and i'll never do it again!  It was frightening!

I too have elevated enzymes off an on.  One thing that may cause it is fatty liver.  If this is the case generally they will repeat blood work periodically and keep an eye on it.  I know its hard to not think the worst especially if you have no experience with it and have a anxiety disorder.  You need to follow up with your doctor and try as much as you can to take one day at a time one minute if thats what it takes.  Good Luck.

My liver enzymes came out abnormal 7 years ago.  And I am a male who is not pregnant (obviously) with no history of liver cancer alcohol  or pain med abuse.  To this day my liver functions normaly and i consistently exceed my work out records.

If you seem too concerned get a second opinion from another doctor and make sure to mention your pregnancy.
