Enlarged Spleen problems

by JoshHouse, Mar 24, 2007 12:00AM
I didnt really know where else to put this question so I'm putting it here...

I recently had mononucleosis, at which time they halted me from playing my favourite sport in the entire world, rugby, because youre spleen enlarges when you have mono. I got an ultrasound on yesterday and he said it looked quite big but he couldn't tell me anymore since he was not my doctor.

I'm dying without rugby.. if the results come back thats it's still too big for me to play physical contact sports, does anybody know how long it takes for the spleen to reshrink to normal size? Any input is GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks,
Josh

Unfortunately it takes your body a LONG time to recover from mono and if you don't take care of yourself, rest often and stay away from alcohol, it can come back. You shold not be playing contact sports at all with an enlarged spleen. I think you should see a liver specialist and have further testing on your spleen and your liver, both are affected by mono.

It can take a year to recover, you should have more tests done to measure your spleen now.
