Erythmia multiforme?

by klaw48, Apr 02, 2006 12:00AM
I posted a question about a week ago regarding an unusual condition that has been reacurring for about 10 tears or more. After checking various dermatology websites, it seems that I may have erythmia multiform. My symptoms are circular lesions, both big and small, that occur on the bottoms of my hands and feet. Sometimes my finger(s), toe(s), and heel(s) become inflamed quite substantally, which are heat sensitive and very painful. Typically it subsides after 3-5 days. Is anyone familiar with erythmia multiforme? If so, does this sound like symptoms of this and is it cureable, or just something that I will have to live with. Please help so I can bring this up with my doctor. I have seen over 20 doctors regarding this and no diagnosis. Comments greatly appreciated.

Do you mean Erythema Multiforme? I think this is the common spelling for it. There are also alternative names for it: Lyell's syndrome, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, Toxic epidermal necrolysis
You should ask your Dr. for a lesion biopsy to confirm the diagnosis.
Here is a link to emedicine.com. They have very good articles on everything. This one shows pictures, and suggests Zovirax as a treatment if herpes was the cause.

There are many possible causes. This website suggested steroid cream, and had an easier to understand list of possible causes. You can try OTC hydrocortisone cream, or get a stronger one by Rx.
