Fainting or Seizures?

I am a 32 yr. old healthy woman who is very active in sports and outdoor activities. My family doctor is retiring and my new doctor wants to take my driver's license away because of my fainting/dizzy spells. I remember fainting as a child before the first day of school a few times. But since I was 21, I started fainting more often. Sometimes I don't completely loose conciousness and only get really dizzy but I can do some deep breathing to get back to sorts. The problem is I have them when I am sleeping and get up to 10 in a row. I have had many tests done and my doctor just gave up and gave me anit-convulsant medication (500mg per day) that doesn't help at all. I get these dizzy/fainting spells around 2 - 4 days a month, where I need to take the day off because I get so many during the day. Seizures have been ruled out, as I have had all the tests and apparently my "spells" do not fall under the same characteristics as seizures. Losing my license I can cope somewhat, and I have been living with this for over 10 years. The problem I am having is dealing with the fact that no one knows what is wrong. Are there any long term effects of all these fainting spells that I am having? I don't want to be on this medication because it isn't helping but my doctor insists that I take it. I am frustrated.... can anyone offer any ideas or suggestions?

The Yoga Pranayam (breathing exercises) will  help you relax and also help with the fainting.Over long term the fainting episodes will disappear, but you might get a token  episode just for a second. You will be able to reduce/stop your medication and have a quality lifestyle. Please come back to report your progress, as you will definitely feel the  benefit of the pranayam and others need to know.
Build up your timing gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume after 1 minute.

Bhastrika - Take a long deep breath into the lungs(chest not tummy) via the nose and then completely breathe out through the nose. Duration upto 5 minutes.

Anulom Vilom –
Close your right nostril with thumb and deep breath-in through left nostril
then – close left nostril with two fingers and breath-out through right nostril
then -keeping the left nostril closed  deep breath-in through right nostril
then - close your right nostril with thumb and breath-out through left nostril.
This is one cycle of anulom vilom.
Age over 15 years -Repeat this cycle for 15 to 30  minutes twice a day(maximum 60 minutes in one day).
Age under 15 years -Repeat this cycle for 5 to 10  minutes twice a day(maximum 20 minutes in one day).
You can do this before breakfast/lunch/dinner or before bedtime or in bed.Remember to take deep long breaths into the lungs. You can do this while sitting on floor or chair or lying in bed.

Bhramri Pranayam -Close eyes. Close ears with thumb, index finger on forehead, and rest three fingers on base of nose touching eyes. Breathe in through nose. And now breathe out through nose while humming like a bee.
Duration : 5 to 12  times

Kapalbhati -(Do it before eating) Push air forcefully out through the nose about once per second. Stomach will itself go in(contract in). The breathing in(through the nose) will happen automatically. Establish a rhythm and hold your head steady. Not for pregnant women. Seriously ill people do it gently.
Age over 15 years -do this for 15 to 30  minutes twice a day(maximum 60 minutes in one day).
Age under 15 years -do this for 5 to 10  minutes twice a day(maximum 20 minutes in one day).

Once you are better, continue the pranayam once a day.
Be patient, as the benefits will show over a period of months.Only by doing you will benefit
and feel good because you are helping your body. Those who say I have tried everything....
will be amazed at the result of doing pranayam.

Hey my Husband has the same condition or at least it sounds like. My family has a doctor in Mexico they like to turn to when tests don't show anything here. The Doctor there said that he was having very mild seisures and gave him some pills too. But he didn't really say what the pills were. I looked them up myself and it turned out to be magnesium valproate which is another anticonvulsant. He insists that we take the pills to and in the beginning it worked for him but lately they haven't changed anything. My husband is very active with sports and seems to be fine when he plays. He still faint about 2-3 times a week lately. He hasn't been working because he can't trust himself and being in canada we've used up all of our employment insurance he gets and we dont' know what to do now. Have you found a way to keep working without worrying about the next time you'll faint?
