Ahh ok thank you caryopteris xx
Sometimes they forget to test for celiac disease when there is weight gain, but it happens because some people react to the lack of absorption by feeling hungry and eating more. Celiac disease can cause about 250 different symptoms, AND it can lead to autoimmune disorders, including thyroid disease. Please ask for the blood tests for celiac disease.
Hi, been to see Endo today he is doing tests for cushings as I have all the symptoms also is everything is negative he will issue me with thyroxine cos my levels are borderline hypo!! Says it's better to treat and get levels up than just say they are within range! So happy, there is light at the end of this long dark tunnel! :0)
Thanks for your reply, am seeing an Endo on Monday so will keep you posted?!?!
Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Unexplained weight gain and fatigue with all the other symptoms can be due to several causes. What you need to do is eliminate the common causes of increase in weight such as overeating, lack of exercise, diabetes, and hypothyroidism. Anemia, low proteins, adrenal gland problems, kidney and liver problems and Cushing Syndrome has to be eliminated. Late night snacking and poor sleep patterns too cause weight gain. Certain medications like antidepressants cause weight gain. Polycystic ovary too causes weight gain, hence has to be ruled out by an ultrasound of abdomen.
Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral.
It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
I cannot comment about meds without seeing the other labs I mentioned. I think your situation should be further investigated.
Looking at my levels do you think I should be on meds? Hypothroidism??
Can you not seek another GP? I don't know how easy that is living in the UK.
My TSH level was 1.14 (0.35-5.0) and my T4 was 9.8 (7.0-20)??? Really fed up of feeling like this! My doctor does not see a problem! Thanks for replying to me x
Your symptoms sound suspicious of hypothyroidism. He/she needs to order more labs than just a TSH and a T4; need a TSH, free T4, T4 and free T3.
I don't know how old you are, but it is not a bad idea to check your female hormones as well as vitamin D and b12 levels.
You can also post in the Thyroid Forum too.
Yeah just TSH and I think the T4
What thyroid serum labs did your physician order? Just a TSH?
