Fingers become stiff after holding something with light pressure

When I hold something even with light pressure, like a kitchen water sprayer available in the sink or hand held mixer, my fingers remain in the position in which I hold them. It takes a few minutes to get them back straight without hurting. Is this arthritis? Or what is it?

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum
What you have is probably trigger finger. This is associated with catching, snapping or locking of the involved finger flexor tendon, resulting in inability to move the finger and pain. The diagnostic thing is that you can unlock the lock and start the finger functioning again. Treatment is by injecting steroid into the tendon. If that fails, this can be surgically corrected. Other than that it can be arthritis too. Please consult an orthopedic specialist.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

My doc said it was just over use of hands and feet and that I should give it a lot of rest. Thanks for getting back. Thanks for actively answering the question.

Hi, I have the same problem.. you are more than likely showing signs of rhuematoid arthritis and/or carpal tunnel (which I have both)... It's very annoying and I understand.  Watch yourself with cups of hot coffee...  You should see your Dr. about getting blood work to see if you have R.A.  Massaging your hand often helps.  Best o luck.
