Fingertips numb for 2 weeks now after shovelling Snow

My boyfriends fingertips have been numb now for over 2 weeks since shovelling snow just wanted to know if the feeling in his fingers will come back or does this mean the nerves are perminantly damaged?
Is there a remedy for this?
