I love the advice the doctor gave you. When did you turn into a women?
Thyroid problems could mess up your hormone balance.
Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
It could be due to hormone imbalance. You would need to consult your gynecologist regarding this. Hormone replacement therapy usually helps. Alcohol, certain drugs, allergy to food additives, heat intolerance, hot beverages and food, anxiety, orthostatic hypotension, certain endocrine disorders like hyperthyroidism, those involving the adrenals, diabetes etc all cause facial flushing. If there is a flush only during the day and after sports then it could be heat sensitivity. Apply cold compress on and off during the day. Splash a lot of cold water (not freezing cold but cool) on face on and off. See if this helps.
Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Take care!
I would see a primary doctor first and have all the standard blood tests done along with thyroid blood tests. This includes TSH, Free T3 and Free T4 levels checked.
There are new levels for the TSH and not all doctors go by the new levels. I happened to find a doctor that does. The new levels for TSH are anywhere between .5 -3.0.
Make sure you get a copy of your blood tests incase you have to visit an endocrinologist in the future.
I am not a doctor and I am sure that there could be other causes for your flushing. It is good to start with the primary family doctor and work your way up. This problem you have could be the beginning of something bigger so it is important to get it checked out. Good luck to you.
I'm not overweight. My BMI is at 22 and I run 2 miles and weight-lift 4 days a week.
I really don't have any other symptoms.
It perhaps seems to be triggered by either a hot warm or a stressful/nervous situation? Perhaps? This is just conjecture as I never had these problems until a few weeks ago!
Which brings me to the ultimate question, should I just visit a family doctor or elsewhere?
It could be that you are low thyroid.
I too have the facial flushing and have had it for many years. I have many more symptoms then just facial flushing. It was discovered that I was low thyroid and possible insulin resistant.
Are you over weight or inactive?
Later it was discovered that I have lyme disease and it was causing the low thyroid and insulin resistance.
Do you have any other symptoms? Any aching muscles for no reason, over weight, underweight, fatigued, acne, IBS, diarrhea, constipation, insomnia or anything unusual?
