Fuzzy white poop

My 4 year old is having a hard time with bowel movements.  I feel like I am coaching her through child birth.  Her stool is definitely what you would consider constipated, but the part that concerns me is that her poop is covered in a fuzzy white layer.  What does the combination of these two descriptors indicate?  I can't find any clear cut answer on the web.  Thanks for any help!  She has a doctor appointment in a few weeks anyway, but I just wanted to investigate now.  Could she be having IBS at such a young age?

Hi

I can understand your concern. Mucus is produced in colon and rectum. If this coats the stool, then the stool appears yellow-white and disintegrating mucus produces bubbles. A normal stool test will diagnose the reason. A stool that is actually white is due to liver problems. This is true where the child is not growing properly. This will also result in abnormal liver function tests. I do not think it is IBS.

You will be seeing your doctor shortly and can discuss this with him. Meanwhile please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted.
