Gettin Sick Once A Month! Can't Take This Anymore!

I'm 21 year old female. I don't have the best healthy eating lifestyle nor exercise. I am also a smoker.
Over the past year I have been constantly getting sick. I have had tonsilitus twice in the past 2 months and I keep gettign a cold almost every month. Its getting very frustrating being sick all the time. I don't have a regular doctor - but the doctors I have been seeing tell me that its just a common cold - drink water and get lots of rest blah blah. I'm soo sick and tired of being sick and tired. I have figured that my lifestyle has definitly not helped my situation and also that maybe my immune system isn't very great. I take a vitiman c and one a day womens formula every day - and I still get these constant colds. My colds consist of nasal congestion and a flem (phlegm) cough. Usually the stuff coming out of my nose is yellowish green and I've been coughing up green. I know green usually indicates an infection, but it usually clears up within a week and a half. Any suggestions??

Hello,
What you seem to be having is due to sinus congestion. It can happen in chronic sinusitis.
It can be due to allergic nasal polyps or tumors, allergic reactions, deviated nasal septum, trauma to the face, respiratory tract infections, allergies such as hay fever, immune system cells or cystic fibrosis.

It is important to find out the cause of chronic sinusitis as then specific treatment can be started.Treatment varies from saline and steroid nasal sprays to decongestants and antibiotics. Some resistant cases may need surgery.

For that the diagnosis of sinusitis or sinus infection has to be confirmed. This can be done through transillumination (passing light through the sinuses) or Sinus X-rays or CAT scan of sinuses.Pls consult an ENT specialist for that.

I hope that helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional queries.Kind regards.

i think you need to get a complete blood count done, i would say it could be some sort of long lasting infection maybe staph, or a strep infection. however it could be your immune system is going under thats why i believe you need to have a blood test...if your white cells are low then you know something very serious is happening, although you could just have a virus your body cant get rid of...i really reccomend a CBC best of luck and plz keep me posted...
