Glands in neck swelling painfully

My neck and head started throbbing about a week ago and I went into the doctor to see if I had strep for the third time in three monthes. The Strep test was negative so she believes I have mono and I just took a blood tests and dont have the results back. anyway, 3 days ago she gave me prednisone to help with the swelling along with biaxin. The prednisone helped my swollen tonsils, but the glands in my neck keep getting worse. No ibuprofen helps the pain of it, which is causing me a lack of sleep. Is there anything else I have possibly overlooked? I'm not exhausted all the time at all. my entire neck is killing me and behind my ears and head, occasionaly my jaw and armpits too. The headaches are barely managable and I am not sure what else it could be.

Hi,
so since it is not mono, i went to a specialist (ENT) who told me if it didnt get better to come back in a week. It is not better. Now that I am off the antibiotics I feel sicker. I wouldn't say i have a cold, because My cough is dry and hurts because it is to clear my throat. I'm having more of a difficulty breathing, like my throat is stuffy. I have no mucus in my nose/ stuffy or runyn nose. My chest/ throat feel a little tight and tonsils are STILL swollen. I think I am going back next week.

Hello,

I cannot confirm anything without examination but it can be due to infectious mononucleosis. Infectious mononucleosis caused by the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). EBV is a member of the herpesvirus family.Apart from fever, malaise and sore throat,it can effect the liver and spleen..

Treatment is with penicillin or erythromycin. Available antiviral drugs have no significant effect on the overall outcome of mono and may actually prolong the course of the illness. You can take Tynelol(acetaminophen) for fever.I would suggest that you wait for the investigations report for mono and then start with the antibiotics.
I hope that helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional queries.Kind regards.
