Grinding Bones on Top of Foot

Hi,

just wondering if anyone knows what the cause of my symptoms could be.

When I move my big toe I feel/hear a grinding/creaking on top of my foot - it actually feels like some of the bones are grinding together.  There is mild swelling on top of my foot and it is pretty tender.
I typically run 20-30 miles per week (I started running 5 months ago) and noticed this problem a week ago after a 6 mile run.  I am wondering if this could possibly be a stress fracture and what could be the cause of this grinding sensation?

Thanks for any input.
