Having serious bowel problems!

I have been having non-stop painful, uncomfortable long, constant bowel movements everyday, all day! I already have IBS, spastic colon, and obviously some un-diagnosed other bowel problems. I also have Polycsytic ovarian syndrome, Chronic Interstitial Cystis, Vulvadynia.  I have been having this bad flare up since March 2010 I believe and its hell. I can't go anywhere or plan anything. I have to take up to 10 immodioum ad tabs at a time to get it to stop or slow down a little. Immodium really doesn't help and neither does the script lomotil. I have also taken levsin, and other similar ones to it...they do nothing. I took zelnorm for a while and it just and everything worse. I don't get constipated, I always have loose bowels and when I go its painful. I have a strong reflex as if Im pushing a freaking baby out. Im exhusted after. I haver to go lay down on the heating pad and take advil, immodium.  I also always bleed and have a lot of mucus. Also after I go, I feel the constant pressure to go, even when I don't have to. It's horrible. I have seem my primary care doc about this about 6 times since May and he doesn't know what to do except give me lomotil. I have stool and blood test done and they all came out negative. No bugs, infections, etc. I am having insurance problems so I can't see a GI yet. I haven't had a colonoscopy since 2005 and I know Im due for one. Im in hell with this and I want and answer! Im losing my freaking mind! Im soo alone!

2500mg is a rediculous dose. I am only on 500 mg and it has helped me quite a bit with my pain and glucose issues. Even if you don't have insulin resistance you need to be on a low glycemic, high fiber diet to get rid of the diarrhea.

I do have PCOS with Insulin resitance. I have been on birth control since I was 16. When I was 21 I found out the polycystic cysts were a syndrome. I had tons of test done and my blood sugar has really always been good! I was put on metformin anyway and got really sick. I couldn't handle it. I could only take 2 500mg at night. I would get so nausous and have massive, painful diareeh. At my last colonoscopy, my GI doctor said that I also had solitary rectal ulcer syndrome and it looked like the beginning of chrons. I don't notice food aftecting me much. Ive been testing that with my other doctor for months. Im not allergic to wheat or gluten. I am very stressed. I don't have a big appetite and try to eat healthy. I haven't gained weight since getting off the metformin, I acctually went from 210 to 160 by myself. The stuff you have been reading on my page has Nothing to do with my medical conditions. Those journel entries, etc. are from what I went through when I detoxed off of 150mcg of the Fentanyl patch. The worst time and experience of my life. It's 100x stronger than morphine and I came of it cold turkey. I was taking it for my Chronic Interstital cystis and vulvadynia.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Taking Imodium will only aggravate the problem. You could be having a problem in the normal balance of the GI system. Taking probiotics may help. Also liver and pancreatic function should be assessed. You may need a repeat endoscopy and colonoscopy to visualize the present GI condition. Please stop taking Imodium and consult your GI as soon as possible.
It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage.  Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

Hi, I read your journal entry and you stated that you had PCOS and insulin resistance. Did these magically go away? Were you ever put on medication for insulin resistance? I have all the problems you have except the diarrhea. It sounds to me that you are suffering with insulin resistance again. Here is a web site that will explain how insulin resistance can effect your body.

I to have PCOS and insulin resistance and I am on the above diet.
This diet and medication (metformin) for insulin resistance is the only way to get your health back. You have been having nightmares at night and you are ravenously hungry because you are suffering from low blood sugar. If you have headaches and body aches this is also the cause. I hope you take this seriously because this can cause terrible health problems like, diabetes and heart disease.
Good Luck and contact me if you need help.

I am here to help you. My husband went through this same problem and has flare ups now and again. This is what you need to do.

You must stop eating all sugar.
This includes pasta, potatoes, corn, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, honey, white rice, moderate amounts of fresh fruit, sodas, fruit juice, jelly and anything made with white flour.

You need to start eating high fiber.
This includes all vegetables except the ones above, beans, barley, lentils, brown rice, whole grain breads with low sugar, whole grain cereals very low to no sugar, nuts (almonds and walnuts are the best for you) and fiber supplements.

Try to get 60+gm of fiber per day. Taking fiber supplements with meals helps. (fiber choice tastes great and benefiber doesn't have taste or texture.

Low -moderate amounts of good fat (extra virgin olive oil)
Avoid all fast food and fried foods unless it is in olive oil or coconut oil

Protein intake should be at every meal and it should always be half the amount of carbs you take in. For example if you take in 20 gm of carbs do your best to take in 10 gm. of protein.

Drink lots of water, water with lemon (helps cleanse the liver), small amounts of coffee (preferably decaf), small amounts of tea (preferably decaf.), green tea, herbal teas.

You can replace sugar with stevia only!

If you want to get well this is what you have to do. If you have any questions just contact me. If you develop any problems from the diet let me know. Having blood in your stool is more than likely from all the diarrhea. Keep an eye on it. It may take a week or so to notice a difference. The high concentrations of fiber will help absorb the mucus substance in your stool.
Good Luck and keep me posted.
