I am having severe joint pain in all of my joints but especially in my feet, ankles, knees, and back. My problems started last week with muscle fatigue, feeling out of breath and low energy. Two days ago I developed a fever (about 101) and the joint pain started. The fever has subsided but now I can barely walk and it is extremely painful. Ice and ibuprofen help some...but not enough. After sleep last night, the pain was reduced but returned when I tried to walk again. I also started taking Dilatin for sizures 2 weeks ago (400 mg/day). Plan on going to the VA tomorrow after Mothers Day. Any ideas on what this could be?
Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
Since the joint pains started after fever it could just be weakness or effect of viral infection. Joint pains can also be a side effect of Dilantin and since you recently started this, you could ask your doctor regarding this. Apart from fibromyalgia multiple joint pain is seen in hypothyroidism, low Vitamin D levels, Low Vit B12 levels, anemia, Hasimotos thyroiditis, gout (can sometimes cause multiple joint pain), rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, SLE, electrolyte disturbance particularly those involving calcium and magnesium, parathyroid gland problems, chondrocalcinosis and chronic fatigue syndrome. Please talk to your doctor regarding these and get yourself examined accordingly. Take care!
