Help

I gave birth to my son almost 3 years ago... I do believe that he sat on my sciatic nerve most of my pregnancy.  I have been to multiple doctors to try and figure out what is going on! I have had xrays and MRIs. Everything has come back clear... I have been suffering from serve  pain in my lower back that runs down into my butt and thigh.. never to my feet.. I have done physical therapy and everything else you can imagine. I went to my doctor after not being able to get out of bed for 2 days because of the pain.. he basically told me that any nerve damage take 3 to 4 years to heal itselfs... and there was nothing he could do for me ( shocker, thats what i have been told by every doctor ). I am wondering if anyone else has had this pain for several years and has it gotten better? I feel like my child is suffering because I cant pick him up or do certain stuff with him.. I do take a muscle relaxer which helps only when the pain is not raging.. can someone give me some advise on what else I can do...

I have seen a pain management doctor.. they put me on muscle relaxer and hydrocodine.. I stopped taking them because I didnt want to rely on pain meds to get through the day.... I am going back into the doctor to get a new MRI to see if anything has changed. I did ask about the injections and my doctor told md he did not advice it because im young and each shot builds scar tissue and that can cause problems later on... I will have to check on those meds.. im on sometime of anti inflammatory but it doesnt help... thank you for letting me know im not the only one.

Hi KBE
I'm sorry to hear about your nerve pain, It's awful isn't it?  There are some medications for nerve pain. Neurotin and Lyrica are the ones I know about. I've tried Lyrica and it really worked well for me. I had to stop taking it because we were trying for a baby. Now that my daughter is here I've been seriously contemplating whether I should go back on it. I gained about 30lbs on it and the extra weight is a killer on my back. I don't know much about neurotin. The person I know of who took it gained weight also(not sure if it was from med). It was taken for diabetic neuropathy. It does take a long long time for the nerves to get better. I had several injuries to my back which causes severe pain in my back and leg in 2006 and I still have the same pains even after 3 lumbar surgeries in less then 3 yrs. I wonder if cortisone injections would help you?? Do you see a pain management doctor? If not I would. They understand the different types of pain and how to effectively treat it. I hope you can find some relief soon. It is hard to pick up your little one when you have pain like that. My daughter is only 18 weeks and I am struggling to lift her in her car seat. I feel for you.  Please let me know if I can answer any other questions for you. Oh! And make sure to read the side effects on those meds. Best wishes to you!
