Hip pain for months

I've had pain in my left hip for months.  It is the worst when I am sitting down in certain positions, or lying on my back.  I'm on my feet 80% of the time and it doesn't hurt at all, but if I sit down for a period of time and then get up, I feel a throbbing pain.  Right now I'm at a point where I have trouble getting comfortable at night. I pretty much can only sleep when on my right side with a pillow between my legs.  I am often very uncomfortable when sitting on the couch as well.  I am 29, active, exercise regularly, eat right, and haven't had any serious injuries (ever).  I saw a chiropractor for this issue months ago, and it was minimully effective.  I have back pain on occasion, but it usually results from wearing unsupportive shoes.  Can anyone help?

Hi, it sounds to me like you probably have 1 if not more herniated or bulging discs in your lumbar area which are pressing on your siatic (sp?) nerve causing your hip pain. Or... do you carry your wallet in your back pocket and is it thick? When you are on your feet and it doesn't bother you I'm thinking it might be a pinched nerve. Hope you find the answer to your problem, its hard when pain starts interfereing with your sleep, makes pain worse then less sleep; a vicious cycle! Good luck and Happy Thanksgiving.

I had recently similar situation being a triathlete. I stopped running since I had hip pain on super bowl sunday. Until a month ago it got worse. So I went got x-ray  little arthirits in hip  But I have made the pain go away by a very rugged (started on my own) stretching exercises- look on line for hip stretches. Since I started it took about a week and now I do it daily and I have never ever felt better with no pain.

Good Luck
