Hormone Imbalance or just depression?

I have been on anti-depressants since before the birth of my 2 year old. I am so confused about what's going on with my system. My period has irregular which is very unusual for me. I suffer from migraine headaches and bad pain in the neck and shoulders which has now spread to my entire body encluding my feet and hands. I had digestion problems at both ends, but nothing showed up in a colonoscopy and gastroscopy. I have sinus pain, but a ct of it showed nothing again. I have insominia most nights. Just cann't settle because of the pain. I have become dependant on painkiller, though I am seeking help to control this habit. I have a bloated podgy tummy, but I don't eat enough to be this over weight. I've done a test that a friend suggested to check for adrenal fatigue, it entails shining a torch in your eyes from the side and if your irises flutter in and out it's a possitive test for adrenal fatigue, mine was bad. I'm just getting all this into and getting more confused. I know something in the hormone area is well out of wack.

Went to my dr recently and he thinks it's just the depression, as my mood has also dropped drastically recently. He ignored most of what I said about my symptoms. He prescribed Osteo-panadol 3pd, Temazepam (sleeping pill) 1pn and Lexapro 10mg pd. All band-aids. I just want to find someone to listen to me. The pain is getting worse and is driving me crazy. I just want to get my health back so I can be a better mum to my kids. Ironic isn't it I started on anti-depressants to be a better mum and now that's exactly why I want off them.

Hi Relli,
I hope this can give you a direction.
I don't actually know any naturopath's down in Warrnambool but you could ring a few, make sure they are registered and ask if they do 'salivary hormone analysis'. This will give you an overview of your available hormones such as oestrogen, progesterone, melatonin, cortisol and testosterone. Without knowing everything about you, yes there could be an imbaance there. A GP will only take a blood test which will only give you the hormone levels that have already been uptaken, not what is bioavailbale in the saliva.
Depression can certainly be caused by hormone imbalance and so can having kids!!!
Let me know how you get on, and if yo need any more info you can visit my website for free info, visit the perimenopause section in th womens health section. I'm still building the site but you should find enough info to get you started.

Tip: First thing in the morning before you get up, tell yourself positive things, such as :
"I am going to be happy today" "I have a healthy happy body" etc etc. I know it sounds sappy but it's positive thinking that can change the course of your day. Don't wake up saying things like "I hate gettin up" i hope I'm not in pain today....these are all negative and you will have a negative day.

Definately sounds like adrenal fatigue which causes depression and insomnia.  I think alot of new moms get it from being up all night in the beginning and working and juggling and so on .  You stop taking care of yourselves and thus the adrenal fitigue.  The problem with ithis is if you go to an M.D. none of the tests will come back out of range enough they are only looking for diseases of the adrenals you need a good d.o. or natural doc to give you supplements for it.  Sleep is most important on that list though even if you have to take the sleeping pills try to go to bed as early as possible and sleep as much as you can and everything else will fall in place.  Get a good book on adrenal fitigue also suzanne sommers talks alot about it in her book.

good luck
keep in touch and feel free to ask me anything I know alot about it first hand.
