Hot flashes, reddening or face (flushing) and throat "sensation"

I for off and on for 10 years have had the following episode(s)....

1-My face turns very red, sometimes the socket of my eyes stay normal color and my face is so red I look like a racoon, ha!

2-I get very hot (hot flashes), especially in face, but feel warm all over.  Body temp does not rise thought.

3-Feel a sensation in my throat.  Just below adam's apple. Like something is swollen and feels like I have mucuos stuck there and always wanting to clear my throat and swallow.

Thyroid tests have always been fine.

This is very annoying though.  Anyone have any insight??

Thanks.

Chris

Christcx,

I have been having the same exact issue.  My face turns bright red only around my cheeks and forehead, leaving my eye areas flesh toned.  I get a "hot flash" sensation that is primarily concentrated in my face and ears, although my body temperature does feel high, i have taken my temperature during the episodes and body temperature was normal.  I have had problems with swallowing and it feels like mucous is constantly stuck at the base of my throat.  My sinus cavity has also been extremely dry and "tense".  It seems to be triggered by stress or warm temperatures.  I went to my doctor and he referred me to a neurologist.  No information as of yet from the neurologist.....any information anybody has would be excellent.  This is a very annoying and painful situation.

I'm sorry, but I meant to respond to a facial flushing question asked by someone else. I'm not sure how I ended up with your "thead".
Please forgive me

Your father has "classic" symtoms that include facial flushing.
I know of 2 possibilities from the symtoms you mentioned.

Look up carcinoid syndrome. Many doctors do not, or will not consider this
diagnosis because it is considered to be a rare or benign type of cancer.

I have carcinoid syndrome. Like most others with this disease, it takes many years to get a diagnosis because of the multitude of symtoms. You can go to the ACOR website, and click carcinoid to read about other's with this cancer.

First, however, please check out www.carcinoid.org. It will give you much information as well as links, support, and especially a list of experts around the country that are familar and KNOW how to diagnose and treat this disease.
Next, is a disease called mastocytosis . Both of these diseases can mimick each other and cause intense facial flushing as well as a host of other symtoms.  Mastocytosis (also known as mast cell disease) can produce symtoms that also mimick a severe allergic reaction and, in fact cause symptons of throat tightness, closing, and anaphalactic shock.
Please let me know if you have any more questions. Not all of us fit into the perfect diagnostic mold that our doctor's would like us to be.
By the way, carcinoid is neuro-endocrine system cancer. Like mast cell disease, different hormones are produced (by the tumor(s)) that in turn, cause the symtoms of flushing, diarreah (sometimes constipation), stomach pain, cramping or bloating, fatigue, joint pain, etc.
I hope your father gets an answer and some relief soon. if it turns out that he does have carcinoid, then he should be able to get some relief from his symtoms soon
Hope this helps,
macbeth
