How to improve know if my sternum is fractured or xyphoid process broken?

I took an upward angle hit straight to the bottom of the sternum with a hard object. It hurt at the time but now it doesn't unless I touch it. Touching it invariably makes it hurt. I am trying to decide whether it is a bad bruise or something I should get checked out. No visible external signs. Slight nausea upon impact hence subsided. Would really appreciate guidance. Thank you.

I would not worry about your sternum or xyphoid process is broken, the reason being is that there is no way to fix it but time. Now you did not say what you were hit with and how long ago this happened. With not knowing any of this I can only assume that you should be fine and that it is only going to take so time for your body to heal.
