I don't know what I have...

by crzyhrse, Jun 29, 2008 07:56AM
First, I started a sore throat about 5 days ago when I woke up. I got a glass of water thinking that I had a dry throat but it wasn't. It's gotten worse over the next few days. I went to the doctors 2 days later and took the strep test. It came out negative but he said it looked horrible so he gave me amoxicillin anyway. The antibiotic hasn't helped at all. I've taken many Ibuprofen pills, half a vicaden pill, nasal spray, and claritin. None of these have worked. Right now as I'm writing this, I am really congested, I have signs of Strep, can't sleep, and can't even swallow my saliva. It feels so horrible and I'm tired but can't sleep. I'm 16 and don't know what it is...can any of you help me? Thanks.

Endure,   thats all it will pass, its miserable isnt it when you cant even swallow, lots of warm soothing drinks, read, watch TV ask your Mom or Dad to talk to you. Probably by as early as tomorrow you will feel better ,if you dont go back to the Doc and ask for a differant Med, Feel better soon.

How are you? Dry and painful swallowing that are the hallmarks of a sore throat can be truly miserable. Antibiotics can cure bacterial causes but not viral cause, which is the most common cause of sore throat. In this case, your best response is self-care measures including rest and plenty of liquids. Most sore throats go away without treatment, often within a week or so.If you find it extremely painful to swallow, try sipping warm broth through a straw or sucking on ice chips.Increasing your fluid intake and getting extra sleep can help speed your recovery.

I hope this helps. Take care and keep us posted.

I have found that if I put a tablespoon full of honey in warm water or green tea that the effect is to warm the body (sweat possibly) and it helps the throat. and sleep is the best as stated above.
Hope you feel better.
