So my 2 big toes at the moment are so sore through me digging at the sides on both my big toes on the inside (left side of big toe on left foot and right side of big toe on right foot) there both really swollen if I leave it for a few days the pain eases but the swelling is really big and I'm just wondering what surgery can help and if its permanent I try dig the ingrown part out but I never get it all out its extremely sore theyv been swollen for years now I just want lovely feet I can never wear open toe shoes or show them as there hideous, has any body or anyone you know had surgery on ingrown toe nails?? My sister also suffered with this and had surgery and was in agony for a full week after and now the  swelling still remains and she's still in pain when she presses on the nail and her toe nails are left about half a cm wide if not less they don't look like nail, what does any body recommend please help?

Hmm, me and my dad both have this, and other than surgery there isn't a lot you can do about it other than wearing open toe shoes or shoes that fit properly (or trying to avoid them as much as possible). I don't want surgery so I've just had to deal with the pain :/

You need to get dr and get some antibiotics for the infection, and they will give you further instructions on how to prevent and contain this issue. The more you dig and pick at it the worse it gets, and you'll continue to reinfect the site. My stepson had this recently, same thing, and got antibiotics, cleared up. But you can't cut your nails too close to nail bed on the sides, nails will grow into flesh as they grow out. And they will split and grow out in two pieces as well, so you need to leave them alone first and foremost, and refrain from digging and picking. If something else is necessary then the dr will recommend a treatment. Soak your feet in salty hot water to help clean the infection and salt is a cleanser. But talk to your dr.
