In pain for way too long

by alawton, Jun 04, 2009 05:48PM
I'm 22 years old. I've been dealing with chronic pain in my lower abdomen since I was 14. I've been seen by a doctor for many years. He has done surgeries, put me on pain medication and other types of medications. Nothing has helped. I'm at my whits end.I need to find some answer soon. I'm sick of being in pain. the only time it has gone away for any length of time is when i was pregnant. If anyone could help me with answers or just support that youve been through the same thing.  Some of my symptoms include, pain such as a pea is trying to pass through my fallopen tube, stabbing pain in my uterus. Almost contraction like pain in my uterus. It affects my entire lower abdomen, both sides and my lower back occasionally.

Hi
Thanks for writing to the forum!
Polycystic disease of the ovary, fibroids, PID, diverticulitis, cystitis and IBS are the possibilities that you should get investigated for. There is a possibility that you have a stone in the urinary system.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

It might be worth considering adenomyosis as well - it can't be seen during laparoscopic surgery or on mri's (there are some clues there, but can't be confirmed) - I was just told by my doctor, after very similar symptoms to yours for 2 years now, that this might be what i have.  I've had MRI's, ultrasounds, and laparoscopy with not much information - except that my uterus is retroverted and is lobular in shape with a heterogeneous signal intensity - which can indicate fibroids or adenomyosis in the muscle portion of the uterus - it is in the muscle which is why it can't be seen.  I haven't decided how i'm going to handle it yet (there aren't many options) - but this is something you might look into for yourself.  I would highly recommend further testing to rule out the issues that the doctor mentioned - like colonoscopy, etc. - this can help rule out other issues...  I wish you the best of luck and feel your pain...

Hi,
I am a 42 yr old mother of 3.  I was recently diagnosed with adenomyosis and have similar symptoms as you.  I have extremely painful periods, heavy bleeding, with clots, very intense back pain, and now I have started having periods that lasts as long as 35 days, bleeding.  Needless to say not only am I exhausted but I now have anemia.  My OB told me my only option is a hysterectomy.  Although my youngest son is 2, and we are defintiely not having anymore children, my hubby had a vasectomy about 6 months ago, something feels wrong with having a hysterectomy.  I don't feel ok with that, not yet.  I was told that I just have to tolerate the pain, and when I can't take it anymore then I should have the hysterectomy.  I think that *****.  I cannot tolerate the pain anymore at this point, but I also don't want a hysterectomy and I find it hard to believe that there are NO other options for me.  My quality of life has dramatically changed.  I hope you don't have this, and I wish you well.
