Incontinence

by tigger93, Nov 08, 2009 02:08PM
I am 16 years old and seem to be suffering from stress incontinence, for which I see no obvious cause. I definitely have not given birth, am still a virgin and do gymnastics which, if anything, should tighten my pelvic floor muscles. I first noticed it when I was running the 1500 metres in my school sports day about 3 years ago. I had been to the toilet before hand and definitely didn't need it. However, when I was running, I started to feel like I was about to pee, like when you are sitting on the loo and it takes a little while to get going, and then all of a sudden it just came out. It was really embarrassing although I didn't tell anyone what had happened, apart from my mum when I got home. Even if I don't need the loo, if I cough or jump around (as in gym) or if I go running either a little bit of wee comes out, or I feel like I really need to go/am about to go or all of the above. What the hell is happening?

Hi
Welcome to the forum!
Yes, apparently you are right in not having any cause for stress incontinence such as weak pelvic floor muscles, child birth, trauma, menopause etc. However low estrogen level without menopause too can cause stress incontinence.
Another possibility is that the pelvic floor muscles have become lax due to gymnastics, contrary to your belief. You can try pelvic floor exercises to tighten the pelvic muscles. Your gynecologist can suggest some. One such exercise is to hold breath and pull in your pelvic floor muscles as in holding on to urine.
Another possibility is fibroid uterus at a young age. Since a confirmed diagnosis cannot be given on net please discuss these possibilities with your gynecologist once.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
