Is it normal to have a soft spot on back of skull !

by crystaly, May 30, 2006 12:00AM
I,m just curious if anyone else has a soft spot on there skull where the crown of there head is? I went to the hairdressers today and she remarked on it. Actually she made me feel like I was a Martian (I said possibly) she said people have all sorts of head shapes but she'd never come across a soft spot in an adult.  Ive had a look on the net but most of the stuff refers to babies skulls forming and fusion of bones. I think its the parietal bones . Appreciate any comments.

NOT normal! You maybe should try to see an orthopedist or something. I'd say go to your GP first, but I somehow don't think that will get you very far. Good Luck with it though.

Rare but "normal". My husband and son have the same things. Usually it it caused when your skull is still forming before you are born. The main blood vessel in your head can curve up out of place, not allowing your skull to form as it should. The blood vessel usually goes back into place, but you are usually left with a permenant soft spot on your head. This is a genetic trait and runs in families.
