Jaw problems

by gobucks338, Nov 02, 2006 12:00AM
This weekend I was attacked by a stranger as I walked home from a football game.  It was pretty late and afterwards I had a fat and cut lip on the left side of my face, and my jaw was extremely sore on my right side.  This was Saturday night, and today (thursday) it is still giving me problems.  The pain is off and on but it is the worst when i move my jaw from side to side, when i chew, when i sneeze (very painful), and occasionally when i yawn or open my mouth wide. Like i said that is only occasionally.  When im eating it hurts after a eat a little, at first its not to bad.  It has deffinitly gotten better since saturday because it doesn't hurt all day, but it's starting to worry me that it may be broken and i'd have to get my jaw sewn together right before i graduate from college.  I don't have any other symptoms like i've read online about broken jaws when it comes to difficulty breathing or bleeding in my mouth, and it's not tender on my lower jaw, but is slighty tender on the back of my jaw in front of my ear.  Sorry for the length, if anyone has any idea please let me know.  Thank you.

You probably bruised the bone and will be very sore for a while.  Try taking ibuprophen or naproxen as they will help with the pain.  Have you had an xray?

I am sorry that happened to you (or anybody)!  I'm assuming you saw a doc after this happened?  If not, probably wouldn't hurt to see one now.  Google TMJ Syndrome or TMJ Disorder.  Sometimes a hard knock to the side of the face can cause TMJ.  If that is what you have, I sympathize completely, as I have it also.  Although mine wasn't caused from being hit in the face.  Take care and good luck.
