Labia majora swollen in a 9yrs old, after masturbation

Hello!

My daughter got a swollen labia majora on one side after masturbating at school on her chair. I have no idea how she got to do that - she may had some sensation and she explored. I just noticed and questioned her after about a week when I notice secretion on the underwera when doing laundry. She is not doing anymore and the secretion decreased, almost gone, but the swelling of that side is still there even if she is taking sit baths every evening in water with camomile tea and salt. Now is more then 4 weeks and does not seem to get smaller. She does not want to go to the doctor - she is a little ashame of what she did - and I am wondering if a doctor from here can give us some advice or info about what we should expect - will this go away in time? What we can do to help with that? There is no pain, no itching, no bleeding, nothing - just that swelling.

Thank you for your proffessional help!

Hi
Welcome to the MedHelp forum!
I can understand your concern and your daughter’s reluctance to see a doctor. At times repeated masturbation stimulating one side of vaginal lips more than the other causes one lip to swell. This goes away with time. The other possibility is a Bartholin cyst.
On each side of the vaginal opening there are Bartholin's glands which secrete fluid to lubricate the vagina. At times their openings become obstructed causing fluid to accumulate in the gland, resulting in relatively painless swelling called a Bartholin cyst.
Your daughter can soak in a tub filled with a few inches of warm water (sitz bath) several times a day for three or four days (as she is doing now). This may rupture cyst and which will then drain on its own. If this does not help, then please consult your gynecologist. It is better not to neglect such things in girls. Take care!

I am sure that she told me everything and nothing else was there. I am just worry that this swelling may remain there forever... does anyone have a similar experience? Did the swelling disappear in time?

I've heard of this before and some doctors don't know what to make of it-- usually it is just due to friction. If there is no pain or discomfort than it's probably not a cyst or an infection, but because it's been 4 weeks my suggestion would be to see a doc anyway. Understandable that she's feeling a little embarassed, but perhaps if you reassure her that the doctor will make sure she feels perfectly comfortable and that they must keep all information confidential, you can persuade her.
Also remind her that this is nothing to be embarassed about and is very common, but that you just want to make sure she didn't accidntally hurt herself.

All the best.
