Thanks for your help but my pain is in the big toe only(left). I have had it since 1997 and gout was ruled out. Ct scans and MRI, even nerve ending tests have resulted in nothing. It seems I have to rely on pain medication to relieve the pain somewhat. I can't believe that no doctor can figure this out.
Morton's neuroma affects the ball of the foot usually between the third and fourth toe. I have it and it is sharp burning pain when I have tight shoes on or sometimes burning or numbness. Is your pain only in the big toe and is it in the joint area(s)? Could it be gout? The symptoms sound like Morton's neuroma but just not in the same area. They do say usually so perhaps sometimes it can be in the big toe occasionally. I was told to change shoes and that there wasn't anything I could do about it. I don't have a problem when I wear loose shoes, or a rounded toe. Hope this helps.
