Leg pain

Hi I'm a 22 year old male. Im overweight but very active.

For the past few months i have been experiencing slight calf pain when having my leg bent when sitting down for long periods. The more bent they are the more niggling the pain. When i straighten my leg its fine.

The last couple of days though the vein in both my calfs going from my achilles to my knee has been showing as if its a bruise but its in the exact same place on either leg.

Could this be DVP or do you think its scieta (please excuse the spelling!)

Your help would be appreciated.

Thanks for that i must admit it showed up after i had been to the gym so it may have been because i got cramp in my legs before i left?

Its not so much as a pain its a twinge but i did used to cross my legs when laying down and slept with one leg on another.

I dont think its DVT as its not warm and only twinges when i have my legs bent when in a tight seated position like in a theatre.

Although do you think its worth checking out?

Hi there.

The symptoms that you are describing as well as the appearance of veins or bruises point out to a venous problem.  This can be insufficiency of the vein valves causing inadequate drainage of the by products produced by the muscles (like lactic acid). Severe forms of this would include deep venous thrombosis which presents with acute and sudden leg pain associated with swelling.  You can ask your doctor about tests such as venous doppler to see the condition of the veins.  Treatment would initially consist of eliminating the risk factors such as increased weight, and as well as through compression stockings.
