Lifting weights and lead poisening?

Hello, is it possible (or likely) that one could get lead poisoning or any ill health affects from using dumbbells on a regular basis? I have been using some old ones from WalMart and I'm pretty sure they contain some lead in them.. On a side note as a child I used to go fishing a lot with my pop and we would always use lead weights and close them with our teethe... i am fine to this day but was just curious about using the weights.. particularly concerned about hearing loss due to poisoning.. thank you for your time..

Hi
Thanks for writing to the forum!
Chances are less if you maintain good personal hygiene, especially like washing your hands before taking food and not touching your lips etc with dirty hands. However if you want to be sure, then the only way to do this is test for the blood lead levels.
I would suggest you consult an ENT specialist to rule out ear related causes of deafness.
It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage.  Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
