Lump in my throat and sharp pain in my back?

by burywhite, Aug 04, 2009 12:51PM
Hey everyone, Im a 17 year old boy in good health for the most part. Last night i realized every time I swallow it felt as if something was lodged in my throat, like a ball or something. Well today I went to take my vitamin and when i swallowed I had the worst pain in my upper back, when I was younger I would refer to this as the pill or drink going down the "wrong tube". Well I figured that was it but I then took another sip of my drink and experienced the same thing. Now every time a swallow something, whether its a drink or food, not only does it hurt in my throat but my upper back. Any idea what the problem is? Also the glands on the right side of my neck are swollen.

Hi
Welcome to the forum!
In all probability you have acidity or GERD or hiatal hernia. This can cause a feeling of something lodged in the throat. Omeprazole is a good drug to combat this. Along with it you can try over the counter antacids. However I would recommend you see a doctor and take medication under a doctor’s supervision. Avoid heavy meals. Avoid too much of caffeine, tea, fried food and drinks both alcoholic and non alcoholic fuzzy ones. Avoid heavy exercises within 4 hours of a heavy meal. Raise the head end of the bed by pillows to 30 degrees. Go to bed at least 2 hours after food.
Also consult an ENT specialist.
Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
