Lymph Node Sizes

On 12/24/12 I went for an ultrasound of a right supraclavicular lymph node which measured 1.6 x 1.3 x 1.0 cm (which to my understanding is measuring volume.)

On 2/5/13 I went for a follow up where the report says it measured 6.3 mm in the short axis (when they say in the short axis is that the size of the whole thing or only part of it or what?)

On 3/19/14 I went for an ultrasound of the same lymph node and it measured 10 x 5 mm with normal vascularity

No one has been able to tell me if it has gotten larger, smaller, or stayed the same. They also have not done any tests or blood work. I am just wondering if this is normal and if I should worry about it.  My grandfather was also recently diagnosed with esophageal cancer.

I have not previously had cancer but like I stated my grandfather was recently diagnosed.

I also do not disturb it (as in poke or rub it) if that matters. It is palpable though so the doctor has felt it.

I'm not good on metrics but they're giving you reports in millimeters and centimeters.  If you look on a ruler, 10 mm is 1 cm.  Lymph nodes that are approx. 1 cm. are normal. Poking and rubbing a lymph node can make it enlarge for a time.

That area is a scary area for enlarged lymph nodes.  Breast cancer, TB and a few other things can enlarge those nodes but yours sound pretty normal.  Blood work wouldn't be of much help. Have you previously had cancer?

I don't think you node is enlarged.
